Those With A Creative Mind Find Course Online Programs A Strong Ally As They Earn Their Computer Science Degree

Animation is probably one of the biggest examples of teamwork in the artistic world. The production process resembles a sort of assembly line. The director/creator dreams up an idea, and then the cartoon goes through pre-production, production, post-production and then release.

One person who also helps the director get the whole shebang going is designer. They help the director create the visual look of the entire production, including major character sketches, background layouts and anything else in-between. In many ways, without their work the whole thing can’t get going.

Those interested in animation design all have one thing in common. When they all children, they loved to draw. They were also fascinated with cartoons, whether the latest theatrical blockbuster or favorite Saturday morning TV shows. They also started imitating the drawings they saw.

In fact, some of the greatest designers, such as Disney’s Mary Blair, never did any animating. She would create the characters and world for such Disney’s films as Alice In Wonderland, and then go on to do her first love, children’s books. While the industry does have other such stories as Blair, most animation designers still went to either a brick-and-mortar or online college and got a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts. The only thing is the BFA doesn’t have to be in Animation. It could also be, for instance, Graphic Design.

Still, what sets the top animation designer from those who do other forms of graphic design is a fundamental understanding about one important element of cartooning. The work of an animation designer is known for its linear simplicity. The reason for this is this way an animator can quickly pick up and start replicating whatever the designer thinks up with ease.

There’s another important thing one can get from an animation school that helps one get employment, and this is helping a student put together a good demo reel (or disk) and portfolio. A designer usually has both. The printed portfolio displays his ability to draw while the disk shows how well they animate. A school gives the student access to a number of tools that often can’t be afforded.

Now armed with a good portfolio and resume, it’s time to look for a job. Usually, one starts as an animator’s assistant with the goal of becoming a full animator. If a director or other supervisor likes what’s seen, one might be asked to create a few designs. If the designs go over, one is on their way towards being a full-time designer. While there are many who like doing that for the rest of their career, one can also eventually become a creator or director in one’s own right.

It should be noted that the animation world is filled with freelancers. Those entering the field after completing online education programs usually work from job to job, and this includes animation designers. Still, the successful animator averages about $65,000 a year, depending on industry and location. Designers make much, much more. Then again, that should be the case for the person who gets the whole production line going. And who knows where life will take those with Online Information Systems Degrees?
