Great American Artists for Kids

Great American Artists for Kids

$14.95

Fun and easy art-appreciation activities abound in this resource that features 75 American artists from colonial times to the present. A brief biography for each artist tells why his or her work is important, and a kid-tested art activity tries out the artist’s approach. For Georgia O’Keeffe, the activity is a desert painting; for Frederic Remington, a face cast; for Leroy Nieman, a sketch of athletes; and for James Whistler, a clay engraving. Projects stress the creative process and encourage kids to try unusual techniques such as block printing, soak-stain, and stone carving as they learn about architecture, drawing, painting, photography, and sculpture. A resource guide provides a glossary of art terms, a list that groups the artists by style, a list of the artists’ birthdays, an index of art supplies, and websites for viewing art online.

Artists And More Find Career Choices With Their Science Bachelor Degree From Courses Online Programs

Animation is probably one of the biggest examples of teamwork in the artistic world. The production process resembles a sort of assembly line. The director/creator dreams up an idea, and then the cartoon goes through pre-production, production, post-production and then release.

One person who also helps the director get the whole shebang going is designer. They help the director create the visual look of the entire production, including major character sketches, background layouts and anything else in-between. In many ways, without their work the whole thing can’t get going.

Those interested in animation design all have one thing in common. When they all children, they loved to draw. They were also fascinated with cartoons, whether the latest theatrical blockbuster or favorite Saturday morning TV shows. They also started imitating the drawings they saw.

What’s different about designers is they don’t necessarily have to have a degree in animation. One of the industry’s all-time greats, Disney’s Mary Blair, actually loved children’s illustrated stories and did them, too. On the other hand, what almost all designers have in common is they did get a Bachelor’s in the fine arts. It also didn’t hurt that they took courses in animation to learn how to tailor what they draw to industry standards.

What differentiates an animation designer from others sorts in the craft though is one very important thing. Unlike other graphic designers, animation demands a simplicity of line so other animators can replicate with ease. If the characters get to complex, they become difficult to animate, and end up looking stiff on the screen.

Another very important thing an animator of any stripe learns at school is how to put together a good demo real and portfolio. The portfolio displays an animator’s best designs. The reel (or these days DVD disk) shows how well then move. The great thing about taking courses is one has accesses to many resources one couldn’t afford straight out of pocket, so that should truly be taken advantage of.

When it’s time for a designer to get a first job, they usually start as an animation assistant. Do well, and they soon become full animators. With some luck and experience, a director with a new project will ask said animator to join his design team. Many designers become directors, too.

There’s one very important thing all animation designers should know about their field, and that is when the project is over, so is the job. Still, animators make about $65,000 a year, depending on where and what industry they work for. Designers make more. Fortunately, thanks to the skills learned in online degrees programs and the incredible growth of the Internet and video gaming, which all need animation, the number of animators - and therefore designers - is growing at a very steady pace. Those with Online Animation Degrees may even find their talents take them in unexpected directions!
