Reducing Acne Is Becoming Easier Using Blue Light Acne Treatments
One of the more effective methods to eliminate acne is with blue light therapy. Here is the reason blue light is effective in treating acne.
Acne is a common skin condition among adolescents and many adults. Excess skin oil (sebum) mixes with dead skin cells to plug up the pores and create pimples. Once a pore becomes blocked up the bacteria within in the pore begin multiplying and infect adjacent cells. The irritated areas are visibly red and feel sore and become the pimples we link to acne.
There are three popular therapies connected with acne prevention. Eliminating surplus oils on the skin is the primary step. Bacteria on the skin in next eliminated using a mild anti-bacterial cream or gel. Then a gentle exfoliant cream or gel is used to make it easier to loosen dead skin cells to allow them to be washed away. Cells encircling the pore become red, irritated and form a pimple because the bacteria in the clogged pore begin multiplying. The blemish can become more severe if the infection spreads outside the pore. Pressure on the pimple can shove the infection into the sebaceous gland and in some cases split the cell structure permitting the infection to extend to lower layers in the skin.
You can see how vital it will be to eliminate the bacteria at the location of the pimple. With the bacteria gone, the cells should no longer be irritated and may begin to heal. Serious acne can often be taken care of with systemic medications like oral anti-biotics. Most less severe acne outbreaks may be treated successfully by treatments applied in the affected area.
One such treatment is acne light treatment. While sunlight has always been know to help acne, scientists examined precise colors in the spectrum to determine specifically the range of colors that are actually helpful. One early investigation discovered that light in the blue-violet color range was particularly effective. This color range impacts an organic compound in the acne bacteria. This porphyrin releases a signlet oxygen that eventually kills the bacteria.
Because acne bacteria multiply rapidly, three treatments on consecutive days are often required to kill all the bacteria in a blemish. As soon as the bacteria are gone, the swelling decreases and the cells begin to heal.
Obviously, the blue light could be delivered by full spectrum sunlight. But now dedicated lasers, fluorescent lamps, and even LEDs (light emitting diodes) are used to deliver the precise wavelength of light that is most effective.
