This is one of my favorite courses in Costa Rica. The service is fantastic, Carlos Rojas the Head Pro will treat you like a king. The staff is very well trained, polite and goes out of their way for you to have a great round of golfing. Reserva Conchal golfing course is a Robert Trent Jones II design that has a mix of easy and difficult holes. What makes this course special is the mix of rainforest and ocean scenery.
My favorite hole is the 17th hole - a mammoth 210 yard par 3 whose elevated tee box offers a spectacular view of Conchal beach and the mountains in the back. That is the only'nice' thing about it - you need to hit a 200 yard windblown shot over water if you are playing the back tees. (Do not be concerned, there's a 150 yard option for us mortals.)
My nemesis is the 10th hole. This dogleg par 4 looks easy but I was end up in the left OB - even though I teed off with an iron! Then you're left with a long iron to a green that's guarded by a deep bunker on the left, water on the left, forbidden on the left - guess where I hit it, the left. I would recommend playing in the early morning like a 6am tee time to avoid the heat at midday.
If you don't mind the heat, select the all you are able to play packages that they offer. Personally I think of myself as an one round, run to the pool bar kind of person.
If you are looking at living in Guanacaste, Westin at Playa Conchal should be on the top of your list. It's a mature development with a real golfing course that you can play today. It is also part of a beautiful resort and you will always have things worth doing there. Alternate golfing courses to Reserva Conchal are Hacienda Pinilla in the Tamarindo area.
