Can You Eliminate Frozen Shoulder with Massage?
I have been asked so many questions regarding massage and frozen shoulder considering so many treatments available for the condition. Yes is the obvious answer to this question.” While the patient still needs to incorporate other treatment protocols into their program, massage is an excellent tool to help eliminate frozen shoulder. In my own point of view it is not sufficient not to include soft tissue treatment to obtain positive treatment result from the condition.
Massage techniques, when done correctly, do have a place in treating frozen shoulder as they help to work on soft-tissue restrictions that have developed in and around the shoulder. There are many different massage techniques that can and will help loosen up the soft-tissue limitations, increase range of motion, eliminate pain and bring back normal function to the shoulder. Combining good soft-tissue work with strengthening, range of motion exercises, and a good stretching program is the key to long term and fast success with frozen shoulder.
Muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other connective tissue are all part of the soft-tissue that surrounds a joint. Contractures occur with frozen shoulder due to tight muscles, spasms and pain that may restrict shoulder motion. Massage has therapeutic effects on frozen shoulder allowing hastened recovery from the condition. To address these issues it is vital that some form of soft tissue workout like massage is applied to obtain relief. Massage is a great way to do this. It is vital that the therapist applying the massage understands the proper way to massage targeted areas. A soft tissue workout is easily done at the comfort of one's home with the same outcome.
