Just about every teenager wants to understand how to prevent acne. If you do the proper things, you'll be able to prevent acne, or at least keep acne at a bare minimum. This can often be the best news some adolescents have heard in a long time.

There are many theories about to prevent acne, including making use of coconut oil, aloe vera, and even garlic. But, for something to actually work, you need to realize why people get acne.

You must recognize that acne is a direct result of an excess of skin oil (sebum) coming out of your pores and mixing with small particles of dead skin. This mixture of oil and dead skin then plugs up your pores. When your pores are blocked the sebum backs up, bacteria begins to multiple and you get a pimple.

You probably already know that a number of hormonal changes take place in the course of the teenage years. One of these hormones, testosterone, leads to excess sebum production. In your early twenties your system can better control the effect of testosterone on these glands and the oil production returns to normal and you stop getting acne.

It's pretty plain what you ought to do. You need to cleanse your face to reduce the amount of oil on the surface. And, you need to prevent even a larger excess of sebum from being produced. These two task are actually pretty simple to carry out. Here is what to do.

The first thing to do would be to cleanse your face no less than twice a day to get rid of excess oils. Most people recommend a non-alkaline solution that does not promote bacterial growth for cleansing. Two other over-the-counter products may also be helpful to apply to your face. Benzoyl peroxide can be used to carry oxygen to the pores and help kill acne causing bacteria. And salicylic acid can help unclog pores and remove dead skin.

The second major action you really need to take is to ensure that even more sebum is not produced, making the problem even worse. Two major actions are critical here to prevent acne.

Stress causes additional hormones to be produced that cause increased sebum production. Stress is frequent in most adolescents. So, it is important that you avoid stress as often as possible. This frequently means viewing life in ways that will not create stressful conflicts. And, you need to figure out how to deal with stress in productive ways. You can often get rid of or lessen feelings of stress through vigorous exercise. Releasing those "feel good" endorphins through exercise frequently works magic on stress.

You probably already realize that your face feels more oily after you eat certain foods. You almost certainly have felt your face almost oozing skin oil after consuming too much chocolate or other sugary foods. To prevent acne you will need to be cautious about what you eat, like avoiding sugary snacks. What better time is there to learn good eating habits that make it easier for you to live an energetic and long life?

Good general health builds good skin health. So, consume nutritious foods, exercise several times a week, and get plenty of relaxing sleep. These easy, healthy strategies will help keep sebum production to a minimum.

It's a proven fact that by good cleansing habits, dealing with stressful situations, and a healthy lifestyle you can almost entirely prevent acne. And so your face is going to be acne free and also you will develop habits that will lead to an extended and active life.
