Although video gaming addictions are not clinically diagnosable, addictive behavior can be detected by a good psychologist. Some people have different views on video gaming addictions, but the important thing to realize is that it can be damaging to one's life. A main factor that contributes to this kind of addiction is the sense of achievement that the player feels after he has finished a level.

If there is another type of addiction that is similar to this, it would be gambling addiction. Gambling addicts don't stop until they get a win, like a gamer doesn't stop until he reaches a level or kills the enemy. Gambling and gaming addicts share this trait of wanting something and playing for as long as it takes to get it. Once a person gets a taste of a reward he wants, he will keep wanting to get that reward no matter what he has to sacrifice.

What are the symptoms? A person may be a gaming addict if he cannot stay away from a game. As with other addictions, video gaming can become a problem if a person feels that he should disregard everything else in order to focus on his game. It's true that gamers hole themselves up for days just to finish a game. Insomnia and other sleep disorders may arise from this habit. Time can really fly by as the gamer is concentrating on finishing his games one by one. More likely, the gamer is not even aware about how bad his social life is. A gamer would often forget what time it is, or what he needs to do that day.

There's no rehab center for video game addicts. A good way to cure this is to go on a long vacation away from the games and other gaming gadgets.
