How Are Our Children Being Entertained
The variety of games systems for our youth to choose from is very wide. That does not mean that every game is a good choice for every child. Some are educational, fun and extra entertaining for many kids to enjoy and because of the new motion gaming systems like the Nintendo Wii or the xbox 360 kinect, changes in the way children games have also transformed to a more realistic and virtual game playing with contents unacceptable for many kids to view and parents need to be aware of the potential dangers that their children will be confronted with when playing some of these games.
A long time ago when people just began to have a gaming platform in their home, there was little concern that the games would be too violent or unhealthy for children. Parents did not have to worry about what their kids are playing because game content was safe. A game does not have to be violent or sexually explicit for a young child to pick it up and like it. They do not have to play something that will give them ideas that are not appropriate for them. But manufactures have started to develop gaming systems that are starting to cloud this issue. Games of today are more realistic and are full of adult content that many game manufacturers have included in their games. It has become an area that has adults worried about how their children are being affected when they play these games. Many parents are being more proactive in the games that they allow their children to play.
In the beginning of gaming a player did not have a wide variety of games to play. Companies have made the availability of a wide variety of games more common. This has made it more difficult to be aware of all of the types of games that a child can choose from.
With the wide variety of titles, companies have come up with a way to rank their games based upon the content. Games are rated based on their content and the amount of violence that is involved in them. Not only are games better, but the way they are being played is better too. High definition makes the pictures better. That means that a child will sometimes have trouble figuring out what is fantasy and what is reality. The rank that the companies give the games are useful but not perfect.
Another consideration is the cost of the gaming systems. While a person might not spend much more on the new xbox 360 kinect price than a person spent on an old PONG platform when it first appeared on the market, the cost of the games has gone way up and can be a significant investment for a child, and this makes the choice of the games even more important. There is little room for error when a person is on a tight budget and can not risk making the wrong choice.
There are ways for parents to keep a child from playing certain types of games within the platforms. This helps a parent to limit what types of games a child can play. The types of control that an adult has is not standard for every platform. Children today are often savvy enough to bypass these systems. It is still necessary for a parent to monitor their child’s game play.
In the end the best way for a parent to control what their kids play is to be involved. It will lead to a better understanding of what the fun of gaming is all about. A parent can use the time as a teaching experience for their kids. They can also discuss the things that their kids see while playing the games. Open lines of communication will never be replaced by technology.
